Question: Music is usually a couple months old before it plays on the radio station I listen to.
I've heard music on my friends' myspaces that I haven't heard before, and weeks later they are finally on the radio and becoming popular. How come they hear them before I do and before they're on the radio? Where can I go to hear the brand new songs before everyone else?

A couple of things to take into consideration....
1)
Not all music that you find on your friends MySpace pages make it to the radio...MySpace is a wonderful resource when it comes to running into really good music from artists that may not be tearing up the radio airwaves.
2)
I work in radio and I can tell you how it works from a Music Directors standpoint....
Every Tuesday Labels release new music that has been packaged as singles for radio airplay. These singles are released several weeks before their "add" date to give the music director time to proof and decide whether or not to add it to the playlist.
So really to answer your question. New music on your radio is really only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the literal sea of new music being released all the time....
A couple of resources I use to identify music that is coming out....whats hot...what's potentially on the way....
Radio & Records.com you don't need a subscription to find out whats currently hot and new releases....for every genre of music.
If your into rock...there is a magazine called A.P. (alternative press) I am a religious reader of this...it is extremely thorough when it comes to anything ROCK....they were breaking news about some of the biggest names in rock today before anyone even knew who the hell they were.
They list release dates for almost EVERY rock release in each issue....for majors, minors, indies and everyone in between.
Those are my most trusted sources....AND they're user friendly.

Most bands will release at least portions of new material on their web sites. it just takes a little researching. Once you find out stuff like song titles, album names, etc. Get them on whatever music program you use (limewire, itunes, etc)
