CB radio's? We had one in the early 70's. I thought the only one's that had them after 1977, with such movies as Burt Reynold's "Smoky and the Bandit" and "Cannonball Run",
were Truckers, prostitutes, and renecks. i.g. "The Dukes of Hazard". ;-)

I also know that the term "Good Buddy" changed from being a pal to nowadays "Good Buddy" being your homosexual partners.

Although there were hundreds, of slang, here are some code of the 10. series:

10-1 Receiving poorly

10-2 Receiving well

10-3 Stop transmitting

10-4 Ok, message received. Variations:

10-5 Relay message

10-6 Busy, stand by

10-7 Out of service. Leaving the air.

10-8 In service, taking calls.

10-9 Repeat message

10-10 Transmission complete, standing by.

10-11 Talking too fast.

10-12 Visitors present

10-13 Advise weather conditions

10-16 Make pickup at_________

10-17 Urgent business

10-18 Anything for us?

10-19 Nothing for you, return to base.

10-20 My location is_______. (i.e.- "My 20 is____", or "What’s your twenty?")

10-32 Radio Check

10-33 Emergency traffic at this station

10-34 Confidential information.

10-36 Correct time. An overused term that gets more grief than it’s worth

10-77 Negative contact

10-100 Restroom stop

Deadringer here

Thats a big 10.4 - I was Rizla - cos the guys were always rolling up at my door -lol

ive still got a cb in my truck most truck drivers still use them but dont really bother with handles any more why dont you get another one

saw one in a charity shop the other day good bud

Whats your 20 baby?

Of course! Go rent "Smokey and the Bandit" with Burt Reynolds, Sally Field and Jackie Gleason for a great look back at those good old days. I think some truckers still use them!

I was a little girl and my family had them. I was Pinky!

Sure do. Hubby still drives a truck too. I was Diamond. So that he wouldn't forget to get me a nice diamond ring for our wedding. Well, 22 years later, I'm still waiting! LOL.

JOY DIVISION here

Citizens' Band radio (CB) is, in most countries, a system of short-distance, simplex[1] radio communications between individuals on a selection of 40 channels within the 27 MHz (11 meter) band. The CB radio service should not be confused with FRS, GMRS, MURS, or amateur ("ham") radio. Similar personal radio services exist in other countries, with varying requirements for licensing and differing technical standards. In many countries, CB does not require a license and, unlike amateur radio, it may be used for commercial communication.

I was champagne charlie they were good old days

roger that

Lol yeah my mum used to have one and her handle was Scorpion - I was a little scared when we had thunder storms though because she had a 20 foot aerial right outside my bedroom window

break yah....." hot breeze" breakin and standin by. what's your 20 slick? lol

10 4 that's a copy. nothin' nockin' at the back door. i was Scooby due. holla' at me.

Roger that!

I didn't really get involved till the 1990s (even though I had the equipment after someone gave me their old setup after the CB radio craze went bust)

But the handle I used is actually my ID here on yahoo..go figure.. someone had taken the original gearbox, so I had to become Gearbox1....

But didn't stay too long on AM other than friends local to me... moved onto sideband where I talked furthur and the people are a lot nicer...

73,51 from Gearbox1

Yes I remember them well,my handle was "Digby".

we have one in our hunk of crap van, we use it all the time when travelling. Havent really heard much handles used sincle high school (late 90's).

well in 82 i was still in my mams belly but later on ion life got into CB was and still are misskitti7 on it.
meet my now husband off the CB radio 10 years ago we married 3 years ago.
still have one in the truck and the kitchen and one in the bedroom it is a lot quieter these days, think the net with it's real time chat programs brought about the death of the CB radio but i still have a lot fun with mine i live in the UK and have some very good friends states side i talk to weather permitting

regards x Kitti x

Still got a big colection of classic rigs, was on the CB until about 1993 when I guess I called it a day (other commitments etc...).

Locally, it's pretty dead TBH which is nice if you want a chat withoutr being disturbed but also pretty boring most of the time!
BUT: The 'skip' or sunspot cycle is set to begin rising so over the next few years long distance 'copies' will become reality again (worldwide) so that may be motivation for me to fire up one of the radios again!
