that is just the way some stations can get by

because of greed

because it doesn't work that way....

Artists (actually the songwriters) get payed for their music being played on k-love....

k-love has no advertisements like secular radio does to pay those royalty fees, to maintain the stations they already have and the new stations they add every year to the network.

Hince K-love does like PBS and asks for money to support them.

I figure they won't make their membership lists public, but you figure a few of those artists are paying their dues if you excuse the pun.

Theoretically, Christian-based ministries should not ask people for money. Hence, all their financial requests are called "requests for donation" or if not, a "love gift".

It is purely voluntary on the part of the listener. If you can't pay, why bother by their calls for money? If God wills that they should not continue on with this radio ministry, it will surely die itself out. Christianity should be a purely voluntary thing, not being forced upon. If you're forced upon, it is not a true Christian ministry at all. You miught have stumbled into a cult.

Because they're another religious scam outfit like American Family Radio, pleading nonstop poverty while milking listeners. You're right- those lame, whining artists SHOULD pay to be played.

There are religious stations that are commercial and quite successful, supported by advertisers. The poster above me who wrote about "secular" stations doesn't know a thing about the very profitable "non profit" religious stations. Christian radio is a crime that is not prosecuted.

Whoa! Our very own controversy right here in radio. Sounds like Religion & Spirituality has moved over a bit.

Yes. All true. K-LOVE is a radio station that chooses to solicit donations to survive. If that's your thing - have at it.

If you don't like it, that's what those button thingys are on your radio. There is also an off button.

The possibility of the artists paying for airplay is real. If they are announcing in any way that "compensation was provided..." it's perfectly legal. If they are taking money for airplay and not announcing that on the air - that's Payola and is illegal.

The artists are also getting paid from the representation they have chosen. Since it is religious music, that would be SESAC more often the the customary ASCAP or BMI. SESAC collects a fee from the station and distributes it to the writers and publishers - not the artists (unless they are one in the same). Artists get paid by selling records and performing.
-a guy name duh.
