Question: Anyone who has lived in Middle East and has experience with U.S. shortwave programs broadcast there would be greatly appreciated.

The only way may be if the Armed Forces radio network is using their backdoor on SSB shortwave... They mainly use sat radio but sometimes need SSB to get to where they broadcast... I don't know who they have currently..think Rush is one of them.
But As far as I know, everyone else other than VOA,religious, and one pay as you go broadcaster is gone that would have broadcast it with WRNO being the last one to pull the plug after the owner died in the late 1990s..and none of them play talk like Rush and such.
With a internet connection, why don't you just hook up to a proxy server, and listen to American shows online?
