40 years of Radio 1?!

Question:

40 years of Radio 1?

Tomorrow is Radio 1's 40th birthday. What are your favourite memories of the station, dj's and shows? I remember listening to the charts as a kid, John Peel's show from the early 90's onwards, a bank holiday show in april or may 95 with John Shuttleworth presenting music and comedy, and the funniest presenters they ever had, Mark & Lard!

Answers: i was well into the chart show when i was younger i would dance about like a lunatic thinking and wishing i was a pop star...oh to be young again

regards x kitti x I remember when I was younger listening to the top 40 and recording it. Pressing pause on my cassette player when the DJ was talking!! T.B flowers in the rain.the first d.j. first song.now its gone to the dogs.sooner stream r.caroline. or r.london. Good grief - is it really 40 years already?
I can remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when Tony Blackburn came on air.

I think the first jingle was "Radio One is Wonderful - BBC"

Before that it was the pirates.
Caroline, London, etc
My favourite was
"This is Radio 390 - your all day sweet music station" dont remember alot but radio 1 is a wkd wkd station, i have often had to pull over whilst driving and wipe the tears from my eyes and catch my breathe from laughing so much. gunna miss jk and joel in the early mornings but i suppose moylesy will do lol he's hilarious! ye, i to remember the top 40 as a kid, i listened without fail every Sunday.
what i like about radio 1 these days is the dj's they have (Chris moyles, Scott mills, Jo Wiley and so on) i just just love getting in from work and switchin on the radio to listen to Scott mills.
cant fault it NEVER MIND RADIO 1 - I SAY BRING BACK TOP OF THE POPS(ON A THURSDAY AT 7 O'CLOCK) It used to drive me mad because of its playlists and its insistance on playing singles instead of albun tracks. I used to listen to Top Gear on Sundays, but generally it has always been a haven for public school trendies. personified by Tony Blackburn and that prat Mike Read gettng 'Relax' banned. Even Peel went to Charterhouse. I regard the BBC as the last vestige of empire and would like to see it privatised and broken up. I would listen to John Peel under the duvet covers as a teenager - I worried that if I was discovered my parents would disown me for not being conventional! where can i download the 40 cover versions done specially by good bands for the 40yr radio celebrations , i heard the foo fighters sing 'band on the run & its awesome,
r.i.p. tommy vance & john peel
