That was how the crystal radio became a fad way back when.
We have a powerful radio station about 5 or 6 miles away as the bird flies. Some days the radio station can be heard on the phone better than the caller. the wires in your headphones can pick up radio signals, happens all the time. The cord on your headphones is acting as an antenna and picking up a strong, local radio station.

You could try wrapping some ferrite around the headphone cord to stop it. Such as this:
