Why do i get static on my radio from L,a. USA from kelowna and i get clear from !

Why do i get static on my radio from L,a. USA from kelowna and i get clear from Hamilton ont. to kelowna bc?

ontario is further then L.a. do i need satalight for out of the counrty radio stations?

Depends on what frequency or Bands you are listening to. Could be do to what is known as Tropo, a temperature inversion in the atomisphere. What happens is the cooler air is above the warmer air and the radio frequency's get traped and ride until the cool air and warm air switch back to normal inversion. This also causes stations closer to you not to be recieved as well as normally as they should. Could be another reason for this as well. Electronics close to your radio or metal objects, position causing poor signal path or multi path waves. Solar Flares cause interference with radio waves also.
