What's the hiccup on DAB reception on Radio 5Live at exactly 8am each weekday?!

Question:

What's the hiccup on DAB reception on Radio 5Live at exactly 8am each weekday?

There's a very brief interruption to sound just as they're announcing the 8am news.

Answers:

It could be that the BBC DAB multiplex changes at 8am. Essentially 10 BBC radio services get bound into one signal, with each station geting a portion of it. You may notice that stations like Radio 4, have two temporary DAB sub services (Parliament and Daily Service). The five live sports extra is also temporary.

I suspect the hiccup that you hear is when the BBC set up a Parliament stream for 'Yesterday in Parliament' (a Radio 4 LW programme). It could also mean that 5Live Sports Extra is also being given part of the digital signal. Some people complain at some of the low bitrates on digital radio. So when the Sports extra, parliament and daily service streams are not needed, signal bandwidth is given to the other stations.
