I will be traveling around the US this summer on a bus and I want to get a portable XM radio to listen to instead of an iPod or another MP3 player.
Answers:
They'll work fairly well inside a bus, but you'll get intermittent signal loss depending on geography. A good example is the I-84 between Hermiston, and Portland Oregon. Goes right by cliffs almost the whole way, so block of line-of-sight to the satt.
In a building??? Unless you're in an area that has a terrestrial re-transmitter, you'll be S.O.L. As I understand, the handhelds are just like the vehiclular units, except for having a higher gain antenna. Collects signal better than the magnetic "turtle" I've got mounted on my truck.
