Does any one know what you need to do to get into radio broadcasting?!

Question:

Does any one know what you need to do to get into radio broadcasting?

I've decided that I want to get my start in radio and I want to learn the business and just want to know where do I start.

Answers:

I've done radio and television broadcasting the past few years and there is a lot that I've picked up. It is important to have really developed English and Writing skills. Classes that introduce you to broadcasting are a great start. There is a lot more to radio than just sitting in a booth and talking. You have to know how to form your words properly, time your speech down to the second (10 seconds can literally make or break a job in some markets), writing scripts, knowing the facts and how to present them, and you have to be commited to improving. To get into the business you will have to start at the very bottom in a very tiny media market. No one gets their first gig in New York or LA. It will probably take years to get to a fairly large market so be prepared. Also, when you are starting out be prepared to work odd shifts such as a 2 am slot. New talent usually gets the bottom spots. Hope some of that was helpful. Good luck and have fun!
