SIRIUS Satellite Radio: Why doesn't it get louder?!
Question:
SIRIUS Satellite Radio: Why doesn't it get louder?
I had Sirius installed in my car, but I can barely hear it. I have tried adjusting the volume on the Sirius unit (I've turned it all the way up), but I can't really hear it. When I try to adjust the volume with my car radio it won't get any louder than about a 4 on a scale of 1 to 10. My FM radio or a CD will get as loud as a 10. Does anyone know what i can do to fix this?

I had an XM Radio with exactly the same problem. In checking with Consumer Reports and a local radio dealer, they said it is a common complaint with the radios. There may be modifications available to overcome the internal limits, but then you really don't want your car to look like the inside of a radio station, do you? The limit is because there can be background noise such as static, and they are trying to limit your ability to pick it up. Try this: get a set of speakers with an independent volume control and that would allow you to boost it. It won't help in your car though. I found if you turn OFF the radio or cancel the service, there is no static at all...
