Has anyone seen TAL on the telly?!

Question:

Has anyone seen TAL on the telly?

I'm a huge fan of This American Life on the radio, but it seems like taking it to the television is sort of a sellout, and anyway there's no need for pictures with radio TAL.

So, do pictures spoil TAL? How's the program, if you've seen it? Better than, worse than, or the same as the original radio?

Answers:

I'm a huge fan on TAL as well and have interviewed Ira Glass on a few occasions. I've seen almost all the episodes of the tv version. I can tell they've put a lot of effort into making the show visually pleasing. There's a lot of cinamatography issues with stark coloring, etc...

The radio show is still WAY better. I'm a firm believer in the medium of radio and this is a perfect example. In the TV show, they use all these random establishing shots that my brain is trying to link with whatever the story is, while if it had been done on the radio show, the segue would have been some really appropriate music that would allow my brain to soak in whatever major point they just made or some major, raw, emotion that was just displayed by the person in the story.

If you remember the story about Chance the bull and then his clone Second Chance from the radio show... they did a tv version of that show as well, and I just think the radio version is SO much better. I FELT more after listening to the radio version.

The TV show is still good, and worth a watch, but it doesn't even come close to experiencing the stories on the radio.
