Question about radio airplay royalties???!

Question about radio airplay royalties???

We all hear the songs on the radio, and when they have Retro Weekends, we hear the same songs we heard on the radio 20 years ago. My question is..... after all this time, do the artists like Laura Branigan, or Irene Cara.. or any of the other "flashdance" era radio hit makers still get royaly checks when their songs are played on the radio....??? How exactly does that work?????
