Any tips to enter radio journalism?!

Question:

Any tips to enter radio journalism?

Answers:

I work at a radio station, but I can give you some of my tips that I've learned.

1. Always be yourself! Nothing wrong with it!
2. Be a GREAT listener as well as a GREAT COMMUNICATOR.
3. Be on time! If they say "show up at 'z' time," you better show up at "z" time!
4. Get your facts straight because if you say the wrong thing, it could cost you.
5. Always do the 5 W's and the H...who? what? where? when? why? how?...in an interview.
6. If you feel like the listeners need a right to know certain answers, start doing a pinning down interview (basically getting specific answers to "hard-hitting" questions that people want to know WITHOUT sounding agressive).
7. Do dry runs or rehearsals of phone calls you may receive. It eases the nervousness tension you may arise BEFORE the actual interview starts.
8. When doing an interview, do a funnel affect...meaning start out with the most important and condense it to the least important aspect of the interview.
9. Watch the time. It somewhat goes to #3, if you know you have to do an interview for 1:30:00, don't go over or under the 1:30:00.

Hope this helped some!
