Apparently the sampling rate of the music is quite low for both providers. The quality is compatible to an mp3 file sampled at 96kbs. A good strong FM signal will give you the same quality.
But the worst part of satellite radio is that you have to pay a monthly fee. Subsidizing Stern's or Oprah's sky-high salary doesn't do it for me.
