Radio Personality Training??? Anyone heard of these "learn by doing" s!

Question:

Radio Personality Training??? Anyone heard of these "learn by doing" schools where they....?

hook you up with a station in your town and train you hands on in the studio around your work schedule. It sounds good because you would already have your foot in the door with the staff. Anyway if anyone has been through one or knows about it please let me know. here is the sight i was looking at www.learn-by-doing.com

Answers:

I have looked into this a little bit as being a mentor, since I work at a radio station, but I never actually did it. I do think it was a different site though. I had a co-worker who did mentor people. Personally, I'm not sure if it would really help you "get your foot in the door". I guess it would depend on the situation, but the way the radio business is, it's very difficult for anyone from the "outside" to just walk in and expect to get a job after doing a mentoring program or even going to broadcasting school and doing an internship at the station. It's a brutal business and it requires a lot of patience and quite a bit of talent. If you are lucky enough to get to know the program director and he likes you, then you are more likely to get a chance. I think the best place to start out would be in a small market (a small town, not a big city) or ideally on a college station, and work your way up from there. You will probably still have to start out working the crappy shifts (overnights/weekends/holidays,... But breaking into a larger market is nearly impossible without any previous experience.

Good luck!
