I see advertising a fm/mw wind up radio, When does digital come in?!

Question:

I see advertising a fm/mw wind up radio, When does digital come in?

It would be pointless for me to buy it, If it facers out in a few years, When does it come into effect?

Answers:

Analogue radio (UK) does not have a switch off schedule like analogue television (UK). I suspect that we will have to wait for widespread Digital Radio Mondiale availability. The BBC are planning/running trialing Digital Radio Mondiale in Devon. DAB is too expensive to be used exclusively.

Digtal radios need extra power to demultiplex the signal into individual radio services. The wind up mechnism probably performs unfavourably compared to analogue - less listening time between wind ups.
