Where can I get an inexpensive shortwave radio?!

Question:

Where can I get an inexpensive shortwave radio?

I am looking for something for total n00bs, so to speak, that is easy to operate yet gets a lot of stations. I would not like to spend more than $50 or so. I heard that the ones at Radio Shack are not good at all. I do not use ebay or otherwise buy things online.

Answers:

You can use the internet to locate stores that sell shortwave radios and then go see them in person.

Your budget of $50 is extremely limited and will likely only get you a non digital portable receiver.
You can get some digital tuned radios for about this price but these are not going to thunderous in performance.

You can see a popular one here:

It goes for about $60.

Portables are fine for camping but often are found to be limited in performance and are often prone to suffer from interference when used in urban environments which are more electrically noisy.

Don't forget used radios.
Some older models can be found that give really good performance and if you find the right person a bargain may be had.
Try the classifieds section in your local paper or trading post.
