Why does US radio channels will have weird names like KHS,KFI,KHHT etc. Is there!

Question:

Why does US radio channels will have weird names like KHS,KFI,KHHT etc. Is there any technical backgroud?

Answers:

Those are the stations Call Letters...they were assigned to all licensed stations along with their designated frequencies (like KRTH 101.1 FM here in Los Angeles), and the practice carries over to broadcast (non-cable) television stations as well. I can tell you are from the part of the US that is WEST of the Mississippi River, because all of those stations begin with the letter "K", while those East of the Mississippi start with the letter "W" (such as the fictional station in the TV show "WRKP in Cincinnati"). Just a bit of old broadcast history...
