Question: When gift giving, does it bother you when the person your buying for asks for an outrageously expensive gift!?
My younger brother, who just turned twenty one, called my husband and I and told is that he didn't have money to buy our kids any gifts this year and in the same breathe asked for a laptop from my husband and I [he almost always asks for some insanely expensive gift for his birthday / Christmas] and threw this BIGGEST fit when we flat out told him no, [we don't spend that much on each other]!. After throwing his insane fit, he hung up on me!. I'd like to say this isn't a normal thing for him, but it is!. This happens every year with him!. Although he also does the same thing to the siblings he still has contact with!.

That's somewhat beside the point though!. I'm just wondering if this annoys you as well when people do it to you!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Sure it does actually!. But i get people what I want to give them that suits them and is not always what they wanted!.

***Ahhh, got 'ya!. I think that he needs to rethink about how he acts and maybe he will understand a bit further as to why you tell him that you cant buy him an expensive gift such as the laptop!. I dont know the entire situation however, from what you have told me that is the conclusion that I have come up with!. Perhaps eventually he will learn not to play the "guilt card"!. I know how that works as well, ive had that one happy to me one too many times!. Hopefully though, he will accept the fact that there are gifts that just cannot be bought at this time!. He can also learn to spend his money in a thrifty wise way so that no one loses out in the end!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

lol!.!.!.!.!.!.no!. Not a bit!. It just goes to show how immature and narcissistic they are!. Not going to spend one penny more for them than I would if they asked for a pair of slippers, so why would it bother me!?

Give your brother a journal!. That way he can read all about his favorite person if he fills it up!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

yes!. its extremely irritating and rude!. as a family member he should be a little more understandingWww@Enter-QA@Com

yes, i would be annoyed!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

i dont grow a money treeWww@Enter-QA@Com

I wouldn't put up with it!. My brother used to be an a$$!.!.!.but not to me anymore!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

my advice would be, if he does get a laptop in his stocking, be sure you or your husband don't put it there!. I know there has been a huge shift towards materialism in the modern family Christmas but there must be standards!. I'm sure it goes without saying, throwing a fit on the phone or in person is a very good way to be disappointed!.

You say this happens every year, Am I to assume that in previous years you have given him his own way!? Surely if his "hissyfits" prove fruitless the first few times he will either learn respect for you and your family, or at least proportion his demands more accordingly!.

I think you can tell by my feedback it's annoying!. It's something I've never had to deal with thankfully!. We're both parents so I'm sure your kids point to everything they see on TV at this time of year!. That's kids for you!. I know they won't be getting the £300 dinosaur (you know the one I'm sure lol) but they won't be disappointed with what they get when Christmas Day comes!.

I hope at least some of my ramblings are useful!.

Merry Christmas to you and yours from the UKWww@Enter-QA@Com
