I have an English degree and you're not going to get a job without further training!.
But I have the perfect solution to your question! Do a degree in Combined Arts - in your first year you can take whatever three subjects you want, how about you make those English, History and maybe Media Studies!? Then you drop one subject going into second year and you final degree will be either joint or major / minor in two subjects!. If you want to be a journalist, then keeping on English and Media would be most helpful to you!. But not a necessity!.
I don't know where you're based, but the best journalism masters in the UK is in University of Ulster, Coleraine, Northern Ireland!. It's very competitive so you'll need to have a fair bit published already to get in - so start writing to local newspapers and getting bits and pieces published - this is actually really easy to do once you get your foot in the door!.

Both are good degrees and far better than a bachelor's degree in journalism!. I think your idea of doing journalism at postgraduate level is right!. If you want to be a political journalist, I'd tend to say study History!. If you want to be a feature writer, I'd tend to say study English!. If you're not sure which type of journalist you'd like to be, I'd say choose the subject you prefer!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
