The term "Mind your own business" actually is a phrase which started out as "Mine your own bidness", similar but not at all the same!.
In the late 1800's, women's undergarmets included a gear powered device that cinched their waist in, while boosting their bosom up and out!. The little device was called a "Body Rachet"!. It was highly successful and the demand soon overcame the supply!. Women, being women, all wanted to look better than the other!. One of them, a woman named Selima Oxnard found that she could make her own "body rachet" out of a local soft, naturally occuring metal known as "Bidness"!. This material could be easily mined by a women with a shovel, and then shaped with a simple hammer and chisel!
Ms!. Oxnard perfected her skills with shovel, hammer and chisel and learned to work the metal so well, she could re-create the "Body Rachet"!.
After she successfully reproduced her own version, other women became very curious and asked her how she managed to do that without a foundry, metal working tools, and strong men to make and use the forms needed!.
All Ms!. Oxnard would ever tell them was "Mine your own Bidness!"!. No one ever caught on to what she was actually saying, or what she was doing, until after her death in 1901, when she died a very successful and wealthy woman!.
Eventually, the phrase became a popular business slang used to keep secrets among inventors!
