it depends on the state of mind of the listener
i think johnny marr's jangly guitar is magical, and for me the wit of morrissey's lyrics far outweighs their depressive tone, so overall id have to say the smiths are much more of an uplifting band than a morose one
like someone above intimated, listening to james blunt is like listening to death
for evidence of the power of the smiths to uplift, be in any club in manchester when a smiths tune comes onWww@Enter-QA@Com
