Something of that sort did happen to me!. Once while in a crowded bus, there was this guy who kept on falling on me and getting closer!. I realised that it was not because of the crowd!. I mean he could have maintained the distance!. For a moment i felt like creating a commotion but didnt for the same reason as yours!. After sometime, i stamped his foot so hard that he immediately backed off looking really shocked!. I was really satisfied and pleased with myself!. I guess most of us would have done what you did but then if we dont react like orange or the others said in a more violent way these perverts wont learn at all!.
I think silent way of hurting back would teach these idiots!. Like you can always stamp his foot hard or stare at him as if he were some really gross and pathetic and stinking pile of worthless rat droppings! Or do exactly what orange said!.
Hope such things dont happen but you be prepared to scare the hell out of the guy!

I sure wouldn't be worried about the embarrassment issue!. Hitting him could cause problems for you, so I wouldn't recommend it!. Ignoring it, however, tells him that it is OK!.
