I had to look up fatuous, and was surprised to find out that it means foolish, devoid of intelligence!. If Fern was either of these, she would not be making the kind of money that she is!. I think you have mistaken her bubbly personality as having no intelligence!. She strikes me as a very smart individual and really friendly to all folk that she comes in contact with!.
