Do you think making students stay on, in the UK, until they are eighteen is a go!

Question: Do you think making students stay on, in the UK, until they are eighteen is a good idea!?!?
There has been a lot of speculation as to whether the UK will make it so that there is no choice as to whether pupils can stay on to Sixth Form (Year 12 - 13/17 - 18 year olds)!. Do you think it's a good idea!?

I think it is and isn't!. It's a good idea because students won't find themselves (if they haven't got a job or at college) loitering about the house instead of actually actively doing something!. It would also give students who didn't do very well to redo those exams!.

However, it's bad because the Sixth Form in my school is not very good!. Almost all of last years lower Sixth and this year's failed their exams!. One of my teachers rarely turns up to class (Media Studies) and as we're in Sixth Form, we don't get supply teachers!. Only one of the teachers in the psychology department actually has a degree in psychology and has left, due to not liking the school!. So, if a school doesn't have a Sixth Form that's up to scratch, it's not particularly good news for those students who have to stay on!.

What's your view!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think it could be but at the moment it isn't!. What is the point of being forced to stay on at school if you're not academically talented!? If you want to become a plumber, or a builder, why do you need to do that!? Instead, I think they should do school courses at colleges!. You have the builder course, they need maths of course but do they need extensive algebra and things like that!? They need: If I have £300 and bricks are £50 to the hundred how many bricks can I buy and how many will I have left over!.!. etc/

I really don't think the government have look at WHY some kids leave school at 16!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Bad!.

A lot of kids really hate school, so forcing them to commit to another 2 years is cruelty!.

Some kids are just not acedemic!. Not all of us want to be doctors or go to university!.

I for one couldnt wait to leave and get a proper job, the thought of having to do another forced 2 years of education frightens me!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It is a terrible idea!. You can't force education upon people!. The less able would feel really trapped and probably wouldn't attend anyway!. This country used to have jobs for people in industry but all that has finished!. We now have mainly only service industries, which demand a higher level of education if they are to succeed!. Where does that leave the less academic!? The Government needs to wake up!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It would be a good idea if they left school with skills that will get them a job!. It might be good if some students were able to learn trade skills and get vocational qualifications in the 6th form or at college if they're not going to do academic qualifications and go on to uni!. Didn't do me any harm!.

You appreciate college all the more!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The problem with that is schools are so full of kids who have no interest in learning and do nothing but disrupt those who want to!. My class was full of people like this!. It was only when I went to college (age 16) that I really started enjoying my classes because everyone WANTED to be there and got on with it!. I think that we should definitely encourage kids to carry on education as dropping out isn't the way to solve the problem!. I think it would be a good idea if we gave kids a choice between further education or work based training between 16 - 18!. Kinda like an enforced modern apprenticeship!. I think we should have a similar scheme for people who repetitively claim JSA!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I don't think there should be so much focus on academic achievement because it demotivates the kids who would be better off following a more vocational career!. I think people who aren't great at the traditional subjects should be encouraged into courses in trades like plumbing / catering / hairdressing etc at a younger age so they can carry on learning but doing something they are good at to keep them motivated and that will lead to a good career later on!. otherwise the non-academic ones just get fed up and end up doing nothingWww@Enter-QA@Com
