Question: Why are Australians and Irish people racist to black people!?
And don't even lie that they aren't because my uncle lives in Ireland and I go there to visit him and people there ARE racist to me so you can't even lie!. And if Australians aren't racist to black people, then why don't we see black people on Australian television!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Irish and Africans Americans had lots in common and lots of contact during this period; they lived side by side and shared work spaces!. In the early years of immigration the poor Irish and blacks were thrown together, very much part of the same class competing for the same jobs!. In the census of 1850, the term mulatto appears for the first time due primarily to inter-marriage between Irish and African Americans!. The Irish were often referred to as "Negroes turned inside out and Negroes as smoked Irish!." A famous quip of the time attributed to a black man went something like this: "My master is a great tyrant, he treats me like a common Irishman!." Free blacks and Irish were viewed by the Nativists as related, somehow similar, performing the same tasks in society!. It was felt that if amalgamation between the races was to happen, it would happen between Irish and blacks!. But, ultimately, the Irish made the decision to embrace whiteness, thus becoming part of the system which dominated and oppressed blacks!. Although it contradicted their experience back home, it meant freedom here since blackness meant slavery!.

It's very stereotypical to say that!. Maybe the people you encountered were racist, but to say that all Irish and Australian people are racist is like saying all Jews are greedy, and that all Asian people can't drive!.
Both of these are not accurately put, because in any race or culture, you find people who are bad drivers, and greedy!. Even racist people!.

In fairness when Irish people are racist it's the "I'm feeling awkward and cant think of anything to say because I've never met a black person since there are only about 10 of you living in Ireland" racism as opposed to the "I want to stop you from voting and marrying white people" racism!.

First of all, there is no stereotype, not all Australians and Irish people are racist!. Each person is individual and has their own thoughts!. I'm darker toned and I've had quite a few Irish guys hit on me, and even more Australians (I live here lol)!. Nearly all of my friends are Aussies and my boyfriend (who's black) has a half Irish mother! There are some people that have had a racist opinion but here where I live in Australia anyone that's racist is told to shut the hell up and f*** off!
Alot of people are racist purely because they are afraid of anything different or believe that black/dark people are below them!. Some believe the white race is superior and therefore darker people should be treated like dirt, and then there's some people that believe all dark people are drugged up criminals with no sense of direction or intelligence!. NONE OF THIS IS TRUE!! Yet some people think it and all other different lies!. This can be found all over the world and in different people!.
So please don't think all Aussies and Irish people are racist!. Its people found everywhere and anywhere, thank god the numbers are slowly dwindling and people are becoming more accepting!.

My family are irish and they are not racist!. AND i know some Australians and they aren't racist either!. Maybe you just met some ignorant and stupid people in ireland, but don't compare them to the rest of ireland,you cant just assume all irish people are racist because you had a bad experience with a few!.

I'm Irish and have two younger brothers who are half Pakistani and everyone always says how cute they are so what are you talking bout racism there is people from all over the world in Ireland and everyone gets on fine they is racist people but they are racist people all over the world!. I am an Irish woman & I most certainly am not racist!. I lived in London for over 12 years and have friends from all over!. I do agree are racists here and I wish I stayed in London as felt people more open minded there!. Since I returned to live here I feel victimised against as am raising my child alone!. I lead a quiet life & yet am judged by other narrow minded people!.

My parents are from Ireland and my mom is very racist!. Obviously it's the way some of them are raised!.
