The router is a device that usually contains the dsl user name and password from your provider!. To allow you to connect 1 or more computers at the same time!.
The modem is usually just a path device with a sync light to establish a path to the provider!. Some of them can have the sign on in them!. But are only good for one computer!.
Routers as a linksys, or net gear etc!. can be either corded or wireless!. Depends on which you want!. Now you can even buy a wireless antenna kit and make a desk top computer work wireless if you wanted to!.
Basically , They allow you to connect multiple computers at same time, but need to also be connected to a modem to get to the internet!.
Or you can get a router / modem in one that can do the same with 1 device!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
