Would you say I'm a silly old man or a very wise one?!

Question: Would you say I'm a silly old man or a very wise one!?
All my life I've lived by a rule whereby if I can't buy something with my cash then I can't buy it at all, meaning I've never had any credit cards or loans of any sorts as I don't believe in them!. I'm more of a saver and have been saving since the day I left school and I'm now 28, my wife bless her does not know just how much I have saved (sometimes I feel guilty about not telling her) but I make sure she lives the best possible life that I can give her and I imagine if I did she'd be on the biggest spending spree you can imagine as she loves spending money!

Am I wrong for not telling her!?
Thanks for your answers, best wishes!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

your a very wise one wrighty !.!.it"s always best to have some money to fall back on cos you never know what the future hold"s, mind you i"m a bright one to talk i never have any money left at the end of the week to save with!.!.!.lol!.
you sound like a very caring person, who"s got his priorities dead right!.

erm, if you ever fall out with your wife, you can always come and stay with me, i"ll help you spend it!.!.!.wisely of course!.!.!.lolWww@Enter-QA@Com

Well first of all, you are not silly or old!.!.!. which means you still have many years of saving to do!. Don't tell her, but do make a provision if something happens that she can get access to this cash!. God forbid you die and never tell her about having all of this hidden somewhere!.!.!. she'll never know about it ! Do make a will, and continue to save for your retirement!.!.!. Surprise her then with the fact that you actually can retire without having to work until you drop ! Good job and keep it up !Www@Enter-QA@Com

No,you're not wrong!.You're not letting your wife go short of anything and you're saving for both of you!.I wish I'd started off as you did,no debt, and I'd be a lot happier today!.She's going to appreciate your foresight, one day!.No matter what anyone says,it's your money, you worked for it, and it's your life!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well! I didn't know I had a twin!.
My Wife and I do know how much we have saved but, like you, at the age of over 65, I have no mortgage, no debt and good savings!
The 'bite the bullet' attitude you have at 28 will be an asset in the future!. Good on you!.

Just hope the recession doesn't mean a devaluation of the currency!.

You're not wrong!. But how on earth do you store all your cash!? And when you get paid, who the cheque go to if you don't have a credit card!? You must have a lot of money stashed at home somewhere!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

That I feel is your own business, it would be a different matter if you both had financial problems and you kept it from her!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

Saving is a good idea!
That seems wise =]Www@Enter-QA@Com

A very wise man!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think maybe you should mention in an offhand way that you have a little money from each check going into savings w/o giving the amount or details!. If she feels hurt that you aren't sharing more just tell her it's something you started long before you met her and that you have no intention of touching this money for any reason because it's for retirement!. If she wants to, she could do the same and start a nest egg for herself!. One word of caution for you-- I have heard of people scrimping their whole lives and then dying with huge amounts of money set aside that they never had a chance to use or enjoy!. Don't be such a fanatic about it that it gets to be an obsession --- enjoy SOME of your money while you are young!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

My fiance does the same thing, so i dont think its mean at all!. I know he has a lot of money, and i know he's worth quite a lot, but i'm not exactly sure how much, as i know, that he knows, i'd go on bigger spending sprees than i do already!.!. He puts money into my savings accounts for me, but wont let me see the balances, as he knows i'd dip into it!.!. Very wise!.!.!. He knows me too well, and is doing it for my own good because although i'd hate myself afterwards, i'd spend and spend and spend until it's all gone!. He makes sure i live well, but he'll never let me live too well, because i will get carried away!. That's not meanness, thats love!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

You're very wise!.!.!.it's great that you don't allow money issues to come between you! Neither of you are right or wrong!.!.!.you are both just different!. You aren't being mean or withholding and your wife isn't blowing any money!. Many couples have slightly different views on what money means and what their intentions are!. I think you have a good financial future as a couple because you have learnt how to balance living an enjoyable life with some form of saving and still splurge now and then!.!.!.nothing silly about that!.
