I am sure he said that out of frustration, a bad day, or something bugging him!.
Sopranos, as most classical singers, are tremendously educated and cultured to the hilt!. So, don't pay attention to it!.
Next time, without disrespect, asked him if he thinks Maria Callas, Joan Sutherland or Victoria de los Angeles or Montserrat Caballe are dumb!.
If he says yes, he's enormously jealous because, among many other sopranos, those ladies reign supreme among The Greatest Sopranos of All Time!.
If he says no, you'll know he was just having a bad day!.!.!.
-Anyone can "merely carry a melody", but very few can become sopranos and, if you're one of them, my hat's off to your feet, madam!.!.!.

Beverly Sills was an acclaimed operatic soprano!. Upon retiring, she managed the New York City Opera, not a fete that would be handed to a 'dumb' person!. Anyone that would think she was dumb obviously has more than a few missing eggs in his own basket!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
