I always used to say that I wouldn't, and hats off to all those people here who say that too!. However, we don't know what cards fate deals us!. My mum suffered a severe stroke nearly three years ago, she is a very large woman, a factor which probably contributed to the stroke, and is now unable to walk or look after herself at all!. luckily she can talk, but she is unable to deal with her own toilet needs, or wash herself etc!. When she was discharged from hospital, the family, and she herself, decided that the best thing was for her to reside in a nursing home where she can have 24 hour care!. As a result of this decision, myself and my family visit her very regularly spend quality time with her and take her out on regular trips, without having to struggle and juggle our other committments to look after her!. Having said all this, there are people out there who care for elderly relatives at home and do a very good job at it, for my family this wasn't an option for all kinds of reasons such as health, finance!.etc!. The situation suits all of us, including my mum who is happy and well looked after!. The thing which really annoys me is the fact that some people think we are very selfish, but then they don't know all the facts!. The important thing is to make sure the home is nice, comfortable and well run, make ad hoc visits and speak to the other residents, this is what I did, before suggesting to mum that this was the one to move into!. Putting loved ones in nursing facilities when it is necessary is not the crime!. Putting them there, forgetting them and not monitoring the care they receive is!. The reality of life is that most of us have to work and can not afford to hire in home care!. There are some who keep them home, receive SS checks and neglect them in home!.

I wouldn't!. You know, they took care of you throughout your life!. They're the reason of your existence, you know!? They fed you, bathed and pampered you when you were vulnerable and needed someone to take care of you!. Don't you think its time to payback!? But don't see it like that!.!. see it as a way of showing them how much you care and thank them for being there for you!. Trust me, when you lose them like I did (and I don't wish it for you or anyone) you'll regret not having spent precious time with them!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
My mother has always said she'd prefer to go into a nursing home providing my sister and I visit her regularly!. She says she wouldn't want to prevent us from living our lives to the full!.
Obviously I would offer but if that is what she would prefer then it's her choice!. I'd never force my parents into one unless there was no way I could look after them on my own!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

luckily, with my family history, my family and myself have the life expectancy of blind jet fighter pilots!. so i don't think i have this problem lol!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
While my mum reckons she'll kill herself before even considering going into a home, I expect she'll end up in one, if not, living with one of my siblings (she wouldn't chose to live with me, I'm not the favourite)!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
