Stereotypes exist only when people are willing to conform to them!. People who follow the trends of a certain stereotype 'usually' want to be part of that stereotype!.
Example: I'm a tall girl!. I am not an athlete!. I don't play basketball or volleyball!. If, however, I were to wear athletic clothing, participate in sports, etc!. then I would fit within the stereotype that since I'm tall I would be interested in playing sports!. Some people might stereotype me before they know me, thinking I would am athletic just because I'm tall!.!.!.in which case, it is a false stereotype because I don't do anything to conform to that image!.
I hope this makes sense!.!.!.somewhere in there I confused myself, too :) I dunno, maybe you'll get what I'm saying!.

I think that stereotypes exist because there are people who fit into those stereotypes!. But just because a person fits into one or more sterotypes about a certain type of person doesn't mean that they will fill all the sterotypes and it's wrong to expect them to!. For example, just because a guy skateboards, smokes pot and plays guitar doesn't nesccicarily mean he's going to be a screw up in school even though that is a stereotype!. Www@Enter-QA@Com
i think everyone stereotypes, most of the time without realising!. its hard not too with all th emedia around that there is today and all these 'groups' that people are put into because of what clothes they wear or the music they listen to!.

to answer the question NO! they are usually used in a bigotted manner!. in some cases stereotypes hold true for the most part, but that is usually for good features and people seldom talk about the good! example, old people drive slow!. well generally they drive cautiosly,

Stereotypes are everywhere! But I think they're stupid!. We should all be able to be ourselves and be proud of it! Don't just do what everyone else does! We should be able to shop wherever we want, play whatever sport we want!. And be able to just be who you are and never hide it! Ignore the what the the most popular kids in school say!
