Question: Daughter-in-law advice: I will be meeting her for the first time (long story) when I visit my son for his
birthday!. He and I will have SO much catching up to do and so little time to do it, how do I not make her feel like a third wheel!?

What about trying to get to know her, along with catching up with your son!. In my experience with my mostly absentee Mother-In-Law she's learned more about her Son and what his life is like now more from me than him!. But, I would be confused if you, just got rid of me, in fact I would be offended!. Why don't you instead go shopping together to get to know her, she is family now!. Not a person to be dealt with so you can have your son to yourself!. Besides his Birthday has probably planned by your Daughter-in-Law you are going to have to go along with their plans!. I have 2 DIL myself!. The only thing she would want is to get to know you and the best advice is to be yourself not over bearing!. I am sure she will love you as much as son does!. Dont put on aires and be something your not!. Just go and have fun!. Include her in the loop !. Just ask her if she would love to go on a shoppin trip just the 2 of you and ask her what she would want for their home !. Dont forget to hug her!. Why not ask her to go to dinner with you two but ask her if she'd like some cash to go to the mall while you catch up with your son!.

I'm not married but because of the way my boyfriends parents have treated me I have actually said "they'll never see our (future) children"!.
I'm sure I'm not the only woman who would keep her children away simply because the person treated them badly!.
Spend some time with both of them!.

Have the boy pick you up from the bus depot, go straight to a bar and spend the day there!. That way, she won't feel you want to get rid of her!. After 8 or 9 hours of cocktailing and visiting, then go back to their place to meet her!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
