Is getting a grade in Art fair?!

Question: Is getting a grade in Art fair!?
Answers:
Yes, my art teacher graded mainly on work ethic!. If someone slept all day in class they deserve an F!. We were also tested on the different parts of art and critiqued famous pieces of art!. We were never really graded on how well our pictures turned out, but on how well we followed the guidelines!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It's a tough one, because art is so subjective!.

I'm an art professor at a community college, so I deal with this everyday!.

I think it depends on the course and the assignment that you were given!. If there was very specific criteria for the project, then a grade is definitely in order!.!.!.especially if you were in a Drawing I or Figure Drawing course, where there are techniques to learn!. If the assignment was completely open-ended with no rules or criteria, then a grade would not be fair!.!.!.what would the grade be based on!?

This question comes up all the time!.!.!.!.for me, it comes down to the fact that the artwork is being created in an educational setting, in which case, a grade is in order!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It depends on how they do it!. If they go by talent then no it would be unfair!. They should give you a grade on following directions, completion of projects and written tests!. If they wanted to grade by talent then they should give two grades one for the book and one for the talent of the piece!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

no!.
Art is something that comes from the soul!.
For me, your own art could mean more to you tthan it does to other people because you know the core of it and know what it means and why you did it!.
Thats why i never do good in fine arts class, my art is person and deep, something i do for myself!. I feel that its the same way for most of the succesful artists!. No one understood or payed attention to their art till they died!.Art should be something that you do when you feel like and how you feel like!. I can never do good when im assigned on what to draw or paint!. I could but i dont!.

thats how i feel about it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I don't think the teacher should grade your art itself, that is your personal expression!. But I think they should give an effort grade; like if you put off an assignment to the last day, or if you talk during the whole class without working, then your grade drops!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think not, since art is a very personal thing - it is one's own perception of an event, place or object!. What gives someone the right to judge that, and against what standard is that judged!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

yes it is, you did something, you get a grade for it, and they don't grade art base on how good you are, they just see if you follow direction and do your assignment or notWww@Enter-QA@Com

its never fair, but for it to be a class there has to be a grade!. most people ive had art class with are either really good (A) or they don't do work at all (F)!.
it all works itself out!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I don't agree with grades!. They're just something someone invented!. If its based on effort and completing assignments I would say its much more fair than grading on actual artistic talent!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

i dunno!.!.its really easy to get 90's in my art class, as long as you hand in your work!. My teacher doesnt really judge the artwork just as long as it's following the principle she told us!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think art grades are based on effort!.!. If it looks like you put some effort into your project you get a good grade!.!. If not vis versa!.

Getting a grade in art is fair!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

No I don't and neither does my teacher so he grades us based on work ethic!. Everyone usually gets good grades unless they skip class and don't do the work at all!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

no, thank god someone brought this up!.

beauty is in the eye of the beholderWww@Enter-QA@Com

I don't think so!. It's subjective to everyone out there and their tastes!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
