I wouldn't know if it was the CAUSE!.!.!. but when email, texting and typing came along, people thought it would be "cool" or "easier" to write like it!. I'm told I text like I talk [Spelling normally and actually write legible sentences], but I guess it depends on the person!. Although too many people text like "LOL! Omfg did yooh c d@t!?" and it's annoying!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

no, poor teaching is the cause!. and, students not applying themselves is the cause!. there as always been "short hand" with kids in all generations, maybe not texting or instant messaging, but short hand none-the-less!.

It really only reinforces the bad English!. The real problem is that a lot of kids and teens are not taught proper English in the first time!. Teachers have just gotten so lazy that only meet the minimum standard for 'education'!. I was one of the fortunate ones to escape with a half-way decent education!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
I doubt it's the cause!. But I certainly believe it's a contributing factor!. Laziness and acceptance of bad English in our English speaking society is the cause!. Increasingly, parents themselves, do not know/use proper English!. Gone are the days when parents would bother to correct their children's speech, and grammar!. The "shorthand" used in text if used at all, should be used strictly for texting/IM!. In school and at home, proper English should be used both in speech and for classwork, even emails if we are to save our language!. In class, proper English should be spoken and written, with slang kept to a minimum!. Lately, I have even heard some teens speak "in text"!. One of my neighbour's kids actually said "IDK" when I asked if her mother still needed to borrow my hammer!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
not just texting also aim and sites like myspace and stuff because theres no one sitting there going THATS NOT PROPPER and then alot of kids also transfer it into school work!. numerous times my teach would complain about kids putting 2 instead of two or to and things like that!. its really annoying especially when they type LykE Dis ugh agravating!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Yeah because at my school!. They texts things like this " Wat up my guh" or " She jus a h8ta!." and when it comes down to them taking a state test that includes writing they do it just like that!. And my principal gets very embarrassed about that!. I text like that sometimes but I don write like that!. Considering that I write stories a lot!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
I think it's a reason for it, but not a cause!. i'm pretty sure people just do it most of the time because they're idiots!. theres a difference between shortening a few words and rearranging the entire alphabet because it apparently looks cooler!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Laziness is the cause of bad english from teens!. I'm a hunt and peck typer, and I can keep a sustained 30 words per minutes!. The pace is exactly the same on a cell phone if I use my thumbs!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

both texting and IMing affect teens and their writing/typing but some try their best to write good and some just pick to shorten up things and make messages quicker =)Www@Enter-QA@Com
