I have vague memories of a legend connected with the Crucifixion!.
It went along the lines that this little brown bird attempted to pull out the "crown of thorns" and in doing so, it's breast was pricked by a thorn and started to bleed!.
As a mark of it's valour, the robin continues to wear a red breast!.
