I don't have a dog now, but my old dog was never spanked!. And he was a very good and obedient boy!. A dog does not understand hitting!. They respond much better to a type of discipline that they understand!. A puppies mother will take it by the scruff of the neck and shake it!. You can easily do this also while sternly saying "No!." Another way is to assert dominance over him until he submits!. Say "No" sternly and grab him by the collar and pull his head down to the floor until he lays down and doesn't fight you!.
