Its a bit of an inside joke!. I was at a zoo one time and the cougars were, well, mating!. They were going at it all day and the female was howling very loudly, you could hear her throughout the entire zoo!.
According to the zoo keeper, male cougars have sharp edges on their man parts so that it keeps them in, everytime they pull back it hurts the poor pussycat so she howls!.
