Self check-in at the doctors surgery: Is this a waste of NHS funds?!

Question: Self check-in at the doctors surgery: Is this a waste of NHS funds!?
I have just returned from seeing my GP (it's the stress of spending all day on Yahoo! Answers posting and answering questioins) and when I told the receptionist I had an appointment, she directed me to a small screen and told me to check myself in, which I duly did!. A simple process, but given that there were 2 receptionists I viewed this as an expensive waste of equipment!.

I proceeded to the waiting room and when a patient was summoned it was by their name being highlighted on another piece of equipment!.

I am happy to report my own GP walks to the waiting room and asks for the patient in person!.

What are your views - a waste of money or not!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think its alot easier! I went in the other day (running a few mins late) and some man was moaning about something to the receptionist!. I checked my self in the computer & sat down!. The man was there complaining for another 20 mins! I would have missed my appointment had i had to wait for him to finish!
But i can see your point!.!.???Www@Enter-QA@Com

No way!. She earned her dolla by telling you to check in!. If she wasn't there, what would you have done!?!?!?!! How would you know where to check in at!?!?!?!Www@Enter-QA@Com

My new GP has had self check-in for a year or two now and it passes the time away to see the trouble non-techies have in pressing a few simple buttons!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think so! And it's better to talk to people in person, makes the practise come across more friendlyWww@Enter-QA@Com

does it happen to be doctor Rutherford from queen street!?!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

hmm yes i agree does seem a bit of a waste!!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Pregnant Jemzie has a point - it does save you having to queue up behind Mr Moany just to tell the receptionist that you are there! What I object to is the new telephone number!. We now have to dial a premium number, not the local surgery number, and then press for this option, press for the next option, press again, wait in a queue, and all the time it is costing you to call! then you get the appointment, there is no parking spaces as all the old people have taken them, so you have to pay to park in the pay and display opposite!. wait half an hour, even though you are on time, see the doctor for three minutes to be told you have "a virus", take some placebo;s and come back in a week if it is no better!.!
And people wonder why i just don't bother!!!!!!!!
So i reckon going to the DR's is a waste of money full stop! I would much rather go and see a Dr in the supermarket on a "drop-in" basis!. that way it is at a time to suit me, and i can pick up my prescription whilst i am there!Www@Enter-QA@Com
