Question: How would you handle it if your kid said this in public!?
Here is what happened!. I had a friend and her son over last night just to visit, and my 4 yr old went up to her and asked, " How come your a fat mommy and my mommy is a skinny mommy!?" I thought I was going to die!. I don't think my friend was very happy about it either!. What’s the most embarrassing thing your kids has said in public!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

While standing in line at the local fair, my son (then aged 6) said "Why does that lady in front of us SMELL like POOP!?" Yep, she heard him!. And he was right, she smelled horrible!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Having company in our new home for the first time in a new neighbourhood, the lady next door, a very big lady, came over and was asked to sit down!. My daughter ran over to her small chair and said, "But don't sit in this one because you are to fat"!. That did not go over very well and we scolded her and sent her to her room!. The woman was very gracious and it didn't seem to bother her!. She turned out to be a great friend!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I would have tried to turn it into a suck-up joke, like "Cause she's awesome like that!" or "Cause she can afford to buy more food!"

Then later explain to the kid in private that it's inappropriate to point out people's heaviness, especially practical strangers!.

I don't have children but my siblings sometimes make really mean remarks or call me a prostitute and I know they're trying to be funny and that's what we act like at home but yeah, it's been pretty embarrassing!.

Mine once asked my husband's best friend, "is your tummy big 'cause you hafta poop!?"!. I wanted to fall through the floor!. Luckily, he had a good sense of humor and said, "yeah! I do!"!. Kids are observant and curious!. He honestly wanted to know!. He's trying to figure out the world around him!. What I would do is apologize sincerely, and quickly find a quiet out-of-the-way spot to have a gentle talk with him about how there are lots of different people in the world ( all colors, shapes and sizes- we explained that God likes variety) but that there are some things he should wait to ask until it's just the two of you alone because even though nothing hurtful is meant, sometimes things we say can hurt other people!. Oh, and maybe emphasize that "fat" isn't really that nice of a word!? Worked for my two oldest!. My daughter's just now getting to the embarrassing question age!. Most people understand!. Out of the mouths of babes, and all that!. :)Www@Enter-QA@Com

When my son was about 3 we were in the grocery store when a very large woman was walking in our direction!. My son yelled out "Mom, she's REALLY FAT!!!" I grabbed his hand and said "No, we don't need to buy a hat today!." There is just nothing I could have said to have made that situation any better so I thought I handled it BRILLIANTLY!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

My daughter asked a lady the other day "What happened to your face"!? She was just funny looking!.

I told my daughter to stop, apologized to the lady and walked away laughing inside!.

Kids will say things but you can not hold it against them!. They only understand so much!. You can not punish your child for not knowing that is not proper!. they have to be taught!. Remeber the saying "Learn from your mistakes"!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Kids will be kids!. Their minds are so open and fragile!. The only thing you could've done is pull him to the side and said that it is a very hurtful thing to say and for him to apologize!.

You can't do too much!. It might be embaressing, but if your friend is a mom, she can understand the situation!.

Kids will say anything, they just want answers to all their questions in their heads!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

My son is only 3 months so I haven't got there yet!. But one of my nieces said something similar about one of my aunts!. She said "oh yeah the one with the really big butt"!. My aunt (r!.i!.p!.) had a great sense of humor and laughed it out, but I can understand your friend being a little upset!. She might think you have said stuff about her and your son "learned it from you"!. Don't worry too much, just apologize and hope she can move on!.

And also how I would I handle it----------laughing my a&& off!!! NO, I'm kidding!. I definetly would not punish my child I would talk to him/her and let them know things like that are innapropriate and hurtful!.
