Why don't other states adopt a deposit fee on cans and bottles like michigan!

Question: Why don't other states adopt a deposit fee on cans and bottles like michigan does!?
in michigan, when you buy beer or soda pop, you pay ten cents deposit on that container!. you get the ten cents back when you return it to any store!. it promotes recycling!. Some states have similar programs where you get 5 cents a can/bottle!.

I think if people got more money (like ten cents) for each can or bottle, the less likely they are to toss them out the window of their cars, and they'll get them recycled!. plus its more of an incentive for any bums out there to pick up the cans and bottles to return them to the store and make some money while they are out wandering the roads and back fields!.

i think it's a good idea!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It works!. We here in Michigan know it does!. It's a pain in the butt but it works!. You would, however, be surprised what some sick-o's (probably related to Fizzdude) put in their empties!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

We have that in NY
Its a nickel hereWww@Enter-QA@Com

Yes, but also in Michigan, certain stores only accept certain brands, so you have to waste gas and be hassled to drive all around town for returns and a lot of stores have machines for recycling returns that are so dilapidated it's not worth it to even go in and try and get your money back, it takes forever and you stand in sticky puddles while the machine beeps at you and doesn't work!. Plus, it jacks up the price of a 24 pack of pop by $2!.40, and when you're broke, that's hard!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

This should be in every state, hey lets do it with the water bottles also!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

ct has a 5 cent deposit & return on cans & bottles!.

We should do that in Illinois too!. There are cans and bottles in every ditch and it's making us look bad!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It is a good idea, we do that in Maine as well ($!.05)!.

I think some states don't do it because it's viewed as a "tax"!. It's not, but those who have no intention to recycle will use whatever rhetoric they can to justify their laziness!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

We do have the 5¢ refund in OR!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
