You have simply described every relationship known to man!.
Take your parents, for example, they try to protect you and hold on to you as long as possible, to keep you that little child they knew when you were young!. That is why so many people can't wait to move out when they grow up!.
Then there are your teachers, they try and mold you in their image, to make you love their subject over all others to possess your attention and not share you with other courses!. Some will state it such, that you need to set your priorties!.
And then there are romances and the whole concept of monogamy and how far does that concept reach!. I have one friend who it went so far that he had to stop seeing his friends because that meant he was being unfaithful to his wife, if not in act then in mind, though to be honest he never thought of anyone but her, so his wife was a bit reaching there!. Meanwhile, all of us are being manipulated by her jealousy!.
So, in many ways the answer is yes and I am sure it will continue in one form or another in all our lives!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

My ex was like that!. I wasn't allowed to go to bars without him or hang out with male friends unless they were gay!. He did a bunch of other stuff, a lot of it involved physical violence and emotional abuse!. I left him after 3!.5 years!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Even the concept "keep you for themselves", is limiting my freedom!. No one can keep for themselves a person without putting them in a kind of cage, behind bars or something like that!. Humans are free by nature, to offer themselves as they wish!. No other person can ask their belonging to them!.

not a lover, but my mother did!. i am disabled and on a pension!. a few months after my father died i went to help mom out and keep her company for a few weeks while she tried to resume her life!. she never told me i couldn't go out or anything but she tried to remove any reason i had to!. if i was going to go to town for cigarettes she would say wait and go to the bedroom and bring me a pack, my brand even!. she never used to let any one have booze in the house besides my father and i, and this was only late in the evening when there was no-one else there!. so if i was going to go to the pub, you got it she comes out with a bottle of vodka saying why spend money at the hotel!.she was very lonely they were devoted to each other for 42 years!. love like that don't exist anymore i fear!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
My ex husband who now has divorce papers in his hands!. We were married 1 yr 10 months and 17days!. Can't you tell I was in therapy for a while!. :-) If I went to the store he would clock my millage and if I was 1 mile over he would beat me!. If I was a minute late for anything he would beat me!. He would lock me up during the day while he went to work and then spend the rest of the evening with his dad!. He did all this to me while I was pregnant!. I had no car or phone and we lived 10 miles from town!. Nearest neighbor was 3 miles away!. He even went as far as nailing all windows and locking the outside of the door with a lock so I couldn't get out!. One day I busted a window and hitched hiked to a phone to call my mom!. When hubby found out he beat me!. I never did that again!. I decided to leave when I became pregnant with our 2nd child and he told me to abort her or he would!. you're asking a question but i think what you really want to know is what to do in this situation!. if someone is limiting your freedom they are a control freak!. if they say they are doing it for your own good!. they are lying!.
if you want to do something and they object, go ahead anyway without arguing or falling out and see what their reaction is!.this should tell you how they really feel!. if yelling at you not to do your own thing doesn't work, they will try the guilt trip!. don't let them do it!. be your own person!.if they don't realise that you are both in this relationship as equals then its time to finish it!. you deserve better!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
