Could it be that the majority of people on Yahoo!Answers?!
Question: don't really use it for stuff they need to know really urgently, but
for unimportant polls they don't actually care about?

I use it to ask questions that I am interested in and also for things I want to get advice on. If i need information urgently I have the whole of the internet.
Mainly I see it as a bit of a social experiment.
It is nice and I hope we keep it.
In P&S maybe. If I have a serious question I go the the appropriate category.
I go on it when i'm bored (most times)
For fun.. not to gain knowledge or anything.
Also to discover new bands.

do you urgently need to know the answer to this though?! in a room full of strangers, it's hard to be serious!
i think a lot of peole ask these questions cuz they are bored and some wanna know that stuff to see how much people are different or have in common
yeah .. its fun that way :)
they should create a serious yahoo answers for people that want to ask important questions .. so they leave us alone

Polls & Surveys is only one sectons out of hundreds of section with other people asking & answering questions all around the world.

I don't get why they always ask the same boring questions about favorite color, etc.. I can't imagine they read all the answers or even care what the answers are. I rarely ask questions because there's not much I find interesting that hasn't already been asked. I'm more of an answerer anyway. I've noticed you've asked some good questions though...

Y!A is more for entertainment than an actual information resource, IMO--especially P&S. I mean seriously--every answer I've ever gotten I take with a huge grain of salt. That's why I don't ask very many questions, although when I needed a furnace repair I was provided with a couple of good links. But then again I didn't posts that question in P&S.
P&S is almost a chat room lets face it but shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh don't tell anyone it's against the rules !

but usually i ask questions that im bothered about and never get the right answers to the questions i need an answer to

i think for polls and surveys ppl usually ask stupid questions.
but for homework help and serious questions, ppl usually go to the specific categories.
