A praying Mantis is more aggresive. Some spiders are, some are not. Hmmmm. Spider bites hurt more than a Mantis. Id say Mantis, no spider. Cant make up my mind. I would never kill either. I always pick em up & take em outside no matter what. Just got to be careful the way u do it.

I would choose a small spider , praying mantis give me the creeps but I would hold one if I had too : )
