I usually don't use thumbs downs anyways. Either I use thumbs ups or nothing at all...
As has been stated, I have thumbs-downed a person on accident once.
But besides that no, I don't do it for no reason.
Unless it's flat out wrong or I completely disagree with it, a thumbs up is what I'll give.
once all the answers had a thumbs down except for this one person, so it was obvious he/she did that. Hence I reciprocated, thumbs down!
