after many years of nagging i finally trained the husband to put it down,
sadly my boys are now guilty of leaving it up

to be honest it depends where i am, at home i put it down (after i put it up grrr)
at work, i leave it up as its all guys at work

This is all down to our hunter gatherer instincts. Men need to know what dangers might be hiding under the lavatory seat. Women would prefer not to know about them. If you were meticulous in cleaning the underside of the seat, you wouldn't be so frightened by it.
After many years of being grumbled at I now always put the seat back down and the lid too...
Toilets are not the best looking of thing so perhaps my wife is right, just dont tell her I said that.......lol

I think they do, hubby and two sons always do, never leave it as they found it!
Most who I know do, but my son puts the seat down and closes the lid as he thinks that something is going to come back up and get him, lol

what bugs me more is when the wee all over the seat and i run into the loos bursting and forget to check the seat so get a nice wet butt

Yes, most of us do - I can't understand the problem - we need it up, you need it down, why should we put it down all the time? Why don't you leave it up?
No, some of us have been taught not to do that and whereever and whenever possible to pee sitting down. I've passed this on to my son, who is even more rigourous about it than I am. My mother taught me the lesson by getting me to clean the toilet bowl and, more importantly, the area around it. Once you've done that, as a man, you won't pee standing up again!
most of the ones I know do, but it doesn't bother me, if they can lift the lid I can certainly lower it, so no big deal... I do know a couple though that actually sit on the seat so they don't...

Well they do in my house ie hubby and sons...doesn't matter how may times I tell them it just goes in one ear and out the other !!
This business with the toilet seat baffles me. In these days of sexual equality and equal rights for women, why should they complain about us leaving up the toilet seat when they always leave it down after use. What applies to us should apply to them.
By the way I always put it down, my wife would kill me if I did'nt. lol
