Women and men for that matter are most attracted to people which are out of there reach. Movie stars are the most out of reach so they are the most attractive. Women are more honest with there emotions and feels and that's why it appears that mainly women desire and admire these untouchables; but I am sure men inwardly are just as turned on.

It's a combination of all of it as far as I can say.
I'm far from an expert, but in what i've gotten from asking questions like this, alot of it comes down to the girl themself, the fact that its almost expected by society for women to fawn over people like Justin Timberlake and Bradd Pitt, Fame, Massive amounts of success (whether or not we see it as well-earned success) and as much as most women will deny it, financial security.
It's also a safe subject, a woman can say they "want" brad pitt, without fear of ever being in a situation where it would actually happen.
As far as the looks go, there was a study we learned about in my pysch class where Brad Pitt was one of the subjects, his face is actually almost perfectly symmetrical, and humans are drawn to symmetry.
There's also the two extremes, Bradd pitt has well-known masculine features, where as Johnny depp, Orlando Bloom..and that creepy looking dude from Red Eye and Batman begins..they have extremely femminine features, High jawbones and the like, softer features.
But still it comes back to symmetry, they all have it.
I know I kind of went off on a tangent with the looks part but hope this helps, atleast from a male's perspective.
