I have a '97 Chev Blazer, bought new. Before that a '88 Mitsubishi truck I had for ten years. Two vehicles in twenty years, never had trouble with either one, no reason to change.
VW Polo, it's got unbeliveably strong engine. U know, it's not a racing car, but it's reliable and doesn't consume much petrol. (about 6l / 100km)
Haven't driven a car in 12 years ( I tend to live in metropolitan areas with good public transit ) and only miss it once or twice a year (usually I can count on a friend to get out of town for a drive to the country if I feel like a mini-vacation, tho').
Considering the many price factors, i.e., car payment, car insurance payment, repairs (and they WILL break down and have problems), and the price of gas, taking a taxi every now and then doesn't cost much. I like to walk and skate everywhere I go, too, so it isn't a big deal.
If I were to buy a car, though, it would definitely be foreign (I live in the US, and domestic cars are often much less cost-efficient or dependable as their foreign counterparts). Honda is my recommendation. How would I know if I don't drive? When I did, I owned 2--and they ran FOREVER, hardly ever a need for a mechanic, and GREAT gas mileage.)
Just like with boyfriends, you have to seek a lot more than LOOKS with a car. You need to find one that is cute, sure, but dependable--won't flake on you just when you need it most. :)
At the moment I'm driving my daddy's 1999 chevy S-10, he passed away last year 4-27. I don't care for it to much, no room, but it's all I have now!
I use to have a Cavalier, and I loved it, but my brother was drinking and driving it and wrecked it and insurance wouldn't pay because he was drunk.
