I Am fluent in 3 languages and understand 5. At my work they often call me to translate, I do that, and they never pay me extra, nor they reduce the rest of my workload,(translation for an ill person at times can take 1hr and more)
In Canada we have two languages, yet many Canadian born are not bilingual, but most Immigrants speak more than 3 languages. I'm a Registered Nurse and I find that knowing many languages is very pleasing, for you can get closer to other cultures and learn more about their culture and help them when in need. For me languages are like music, I love to hear them and love even more if I can speak them. Yet I never had the opportunity to fully concentrate in any language. therefore I am not a linguistic teacher.

English and some Spanish. Not a lot though. So like only 1.
