Why do you think teens today have no respect?!

Question: for themselves or others. i ask this b/c i was watching what would you do last night and from my on personal experience w/them.

i've seen them cuss in front of adults and especially the elderly w/o a care in the world. yell obscenities in public and or verbally assault someone they think is an easy target. for me i get flack b/c of my religion and clothes and they assume that i won't jack them up, they do this not knowing i'm american and will beat that @ss if need be.

i just remember growing up and hearing my grandma say behave in the streets you never know who knows me. now adays these kids are talking a/b their sex lives on the bus. it's crazy. have you encounterd this also and what do you think is the cause of this behavior?

kids these days don't have any respect because they don't respect there parents.the only way there parents can get them to respect them is by punishing them ,and sense the line is so thin between punishing your kids and child abuse ,they rather just let them get away with everything .parents today are trying to be there child's friend instead of putting there foot down and letting them know that they will not stand for them disrespecting them or any other adult.if the children today are our future then our future is looking worse then ever

You teach respect.

thats a bit of a stereotype

I don't know if you can just say teens because I'm one and I respect my elders at all times. Its all about how you are raised.

Because they don't like being told what to do, they like to be independent.

im a teenager. now says though teens thinks they rule the world and can do whatever and no one will do anything about it

because we raised them on this PC crap where everyone is special and nothing is their fault

Hannah is right.

you are being steryotypical.

I do show respect

Because they are not taught to respect others~

I know what you mean, but not all teens are like that. Most of them are, but not all of them........

cuz we just dont care. im not sure why we dont, but we dont!

It's modern life...Adults no longer have respect for the dead, for those in authority (wonder why?) and the teens.
Before, people never kissed in public, didn't even hold hands...It was unseemly. But now, anything goes. When I attended school, if a guy shot a spitwad at the ceiling he was suspended; now they shoot people!
I need a time machine, to go back to the civilized times.

RAP MUSIC!!!!!!!

Because if you touch a child it's physical abuse, if you yell at them it's mental abuse and if you ground them it's psychological abuse. Parents have no authority over their own children anymore so kids think they are owed by everyone, and they act accordingly.

Well not all of them are -_-

I'm a teen and I don't even curse-unnecessarily.
The cause of this behaviour?
Media

The six appeared in court today and pleaded guilty to reduced charges. They will be sentenced at a later date.

Ezekiel E. Roberts, Eric Kwamell Archer, Chad Adgers, Bobby Fair and two juveniles were charged in the case shortly after Colon was killed.

One of the youths said Roberts, 19, of Hartford, stabbed Colon, police said.

At least four of the youths were initially charged with conspiracy to commit murder. The charges against Archer and Adgers were reduced last year to assault and conspiracy to commit first-degree assault.

Prosecutor Christopher Pelosi said last year that four knives were found at the scene but none bore fingerprints. DNA testing of blood spatters on boots, shoes and clothes was inconclusive.

Late last year, Superior Court Judge David Gold in Hartford ordered additional DNA testing of a broken fingernail found on Colon's body, but the tests were inconclusive.

i think ur being sterotypical. I am a teen and i don;t behave the way that u said all teens behave. U have a point, but next time don;t use teens in general.

stereotype anyone??

well i know when i was a teen i always had respect for myself and everyone else and my little bro who is a teen now has respect for everyone.

I'm a teen and I'm not like that.

yes, I believe that because most parents have to work now, most teens missed some valued lessons from their parents. I also believe that parents are trying too often to be like their teens (dressing, acting, engaging) and this is a bad mix of actions on the parents part. My sister-in-law is 100% guilty of catering to her 14 year old. The phone, the myspace, the late nights, just beginning to show how out of control she (the 14 year old) can be.

because teens hav such bad reps. and no one gives them respect ... would u respect sum1 dat duznt respect u

why do you give out unfair stereotypes to a very large part of this world by a few witnessed experiences?

hey man dont put all of us in that position, never do that. a lot of us are NOT like tha so next time why dont you realize what your saying instead of saying all the millions of american youth are bad asses

My guess is that the parents of modern teens were raised so strictly when they were children that they don't enforce discipline on their own children resulting in disrespectful behavior among teens. In my opinion, media contributes to the disrespectful behavior of modern teens as well.

When my parents were younger they got slapped if they didn't do what they suppose to do but today the parents don't want to do that to there children they just sit them in a time out and do nothing so then the teens become spoiled

i have a pree-teen and he can sometimes be a pain in the A,but for the most part hes very respectable, but i do consider myself lucky ive seen the ones that have absolutely no respect for anything or anyone and its down right sad....my son has come to tell me on his own about his friends that have bragged about drugs,sex,etc....and he,on his own, makes the decision to stay away from them,he says he wants better for himself and i couldnt be prouder.i guess its all in the way he was raised,at least i like to think so....

Hannah and (smiley)Ready4 are right.
Its not nice to stereotyope. I find it very offensive. Thats just as bad as being racist or summin. Not all of teenagers r like that.

i am a teenager, and yes cusses comeout sometimes with me, but not too often, i have a good head on my shoulders and im very respectful. I never call my friends parents buy their first names its awlays"mr. or mrs." Thats how i was brought up, and thats how i am. You should not judge all teens by a few that you haev encountered. I am a good person and work hard at school, i dont drink or smoke, i have a job, and even go and help youngerstudent after school for a play program. i'm a good person who at the moment is a little upset that your calling myself being a teenager a bad person.
Please be open minded, im a teen, and i have respect, so please have respect for the teens out there, who are like me.

it's such a stereotype. it's true that some teens are disrespectful, but it depends who it is. just because you see one bad teen doesn't mean they're all bad. there are a lot of bad adults in the world, but there are also a lot of good ones. that would be like reading a book and not liking it, and then never reading another book just because you didn't like the first one. just think about it.

I see this every day. It's called high school...and it's the reason I think school's dumb. I don't mind the work...its the people that annoy me. I think people are just lazy... not only the disrespectful students, but also the teachers who won't take the time to discipline them, but rather pretend they didn't hear. Everyone always says I'm old for my age... but seriously. I much prefer old fashioned ways. Especially on the rare occasion I meet someone who is sincerely a gentleman, and treats me like a, well, lady. I guess. But surely you know what I mean. I think people need to simply grow up. Perhaps lessening one's vocabulary of all unnecessary obscene words would make the huge difference of actually improving one's stature and level of intelligence.
